History of Devington Communities Association (DCA)

DCA LogoSince DCA's formation in 1978, our role has been as an advocate, working with City and State government to address commercial needs, school concerns, security, crime and environmental issues. Our area continues to grow and change and the diversity increases. It is vital we, as the umbrella organization for many local neighborhood groups, provide easily accessible focal point for communication among local neighborhoods, to provide a opportunity for activities such as job and health fairs, life skills training, and be an information point of contact on topics effecting our residents.

Our accomplishments have been many over the years.

  • Our founding members were instrumental in a first of its kind partnership in the revitalizing of Devington Plaza, 1975.
  • We addressed the safety issue of crossing E. 46th street at Gardner Park when a child was killed. A crosswalk was marked with flashing lights and the speed limit was reduced.
  • We brought the city’s attention to the many abandon houses and inoperable vehicles in all of our neighborhoods. We now host regular code compliance, zoning, and health meetings with the city DMD, MCHD, Zoning departments. These meetings have addressed safety issues and dangerous intersections.
  • We work with Indy Parks in the maintenance and cleaning of our neighborhood parks.

We know our area continues to change and diversity increases.

Devington Communities Association, a 501(c)3 corporation, has been recognized, by the city, as the community representative for almost 30 years. We continue our partnership with the Devington Community Development Corporation, which evolved from DCA, and now is moving forward with several community projects.

Our monthly Code compliance meeting with City officials continues to address zoning issues that arise in our area. We have been able to offer college book scholarships to Arlington High School graduating seniors with the help of local businesses such as National City Bank. Through the years DCA has maintained close ties with many City agencies, including Police and Fire departments, exchanging information and ideas for helping meet our community needs.
