Since DCA formation in 1978, our role has been as an advocate, working with City and State government to address commercial needs, school concerns, security, crime and environmental issues. Our area continues to grow and change and the diversity increases. It is vital we, as the umbrella organization for many local neighborhood groups, provide easily accessible focal point for communication among local neighborhoods, to provide a opportunity for activities such as job and health fairs, life skills training, and be an information point of contact on topics effecting our residents.
Devington Communities Association, a 501(c)3 corporation, has been recognized, by the city, as the community representative for almost 30 years. We were instrumental in creating the partnership needed to bring Devington Plaza back to life. We continue our partnership with the Devington Community Development Corporation, which evolved from DCA, and now is moving forward with several community projects.
We host a monthly Code compliance meeting with City officials to address zoning issues that arise in our area. We have been able to offer college book scholarships to Arlington High School graduating seniors with the help of local businesses such as National City Bank. Through the years DCA has maintained close ties with many City agencies, including Police and Fire departments, exchanging information and ideas for helping meet our community needs.
